About the study

Why the alliance matters.

The therapeutic alliance is consistently linked to improved outcomes, yet many care systems struggle to measure and strengthen it. This study brings together client voices, clinician expertise, and community insights to identify the practices that turn sessions into meaningful change.

Research questions

  • How do clients describe moments when alliance feels strongest?
  • Which clinician behaviors predict sustained engagement?
  • How does alliance shift across modalities and identities?

Methods

  • Short surveys after sessions capture real-time perceptions.
  • Optional interviews deepen contextual understanding.
  • Clinician roundtables translate findings into practice.

Ethics & care

Participation is voluntary, confidential, and designed with input from mental health advocates. We use de-identified data, provide opt-out options, and share summaries back with participants.
